Many three-year-olds have their own tablets
For five years, tablets have become devices, without which many people are already difficult to manage. Suffice it to say that even one in ten children between the ages of three and four has their own tablet. Tablets can not only entertain, but also teach a lot in the event that the process will be directed by experienced adults, parents and teachers. It all began with the debut in 2010 of the Apple iPad, followed by competitors - Amazon Fire, Samsung Galaxy Tab and Google Nexus. The proliferation of devices in this category completely changed the way people navigate the Internet, as well as watching TV and movies. Suffice it to say that in the UK, according to the media controller Ofcom, from 2011 to 2015 the number of families that have tablets has grown from 2% to 54%.
In the published resource Mail & Guardian the note "The tablet explodes: Old and young charge care" considers the age aspect of the spread of tablet devices.
Tablets have received the greatest distribution among an audience of users at the age from 34 till 54 years. The tablet has about two thirds of the representatives of this age group. In 2011, only 2% of its representatives had tablets.
Tablets are popular devices purchased by parents for their children. 11% of small users of high technology have a device of this category, as well as every third young representative of the return group from five to fifteen years (just two years ago this figure was 19%). At the same time, 71% of children between the ages of 5 and 15 have at least access to the tablet at home.
Despite the popularity of tablets in this age group, the most common device that children use to leave online is the laptop.
An interesting trend is the increase in the distribution of tablets among users over the age of 55, who traditionally pay less attention to new technologies. In 2011, only 1% of people of this age had tablets, and in 2015 - 37%.
The head of the online community High50 emphasizes that mature age does not interfere with the development of high technologies:
Most of all the magnificent that we use today is invented by people 50 years of age and older. How many years have Bilu Gates, Tim Berners-Lee and Tim Cooke? How old would Steve Jobs be? We not only use it to read digital newspapers and books, but also to watch television series, YouTube, as well as communicate with family and friends using Skype and staying connected to Facebook.
However, the great innovators of the present day basically began to create technologies that made them famous at a younger age.
Tablets are used mainly at home, where 37% of users use these devices to go online, almost 60% of them watch these video clips with these devices. More than a third of users watch their favorite TV shows and movies using the tablet using services such as the BBC iPlayer and the ITV player.
Outside the house a mobile phone is used, which remains the most popular device for accessing the Internet. More than half of adults regularly visit the Internet by phone. The tablet to access the Global Network on the go uses only 15% of those who have it.
Director of Consumer Research Ofcom Keith Reeve (Kate Reeve) note the role that tablets play in the lives of modern people:
In just five years, tablets have become a necessary device for millions of families in the United Kingdom. We use them to view news, favorite soap operas and entertain our children.
Tablets also increase the use of applications. They are used by 86% of those who go online. Almost half of users (48%) view news using these devices. 37% use a web browser.
Signs of slower growth in the popularity of tablets are not observed. 21% of those families who do not already have a tablet, are considering buying this device next year.
According to forecasts Ofcom, by the end of 2016 the tablets will be in 21% of British families. At the same time, 74% of people aged 16 to 34, the same percentage of users of the age group from 35 to 54 years and 44% of people 55 years of age and older will become devices of this category.
From an early age, children begin to spend time with digital devices. Against the use of a tablet in school education, there are a number of arguments that, when carefully examined, turn out to be not so significant. Is it too early to offer a three-year-old child a tablet as a toy? Outstanding mathematicians will grow out of the young users of sensory devices? Or funny pictures and fascinating games completely disgust the child from finding new knowledge?
